Holiday Gathering Safety Tips
Planning a holiday gathering? Check out our tips for a safe get-together.
The holiday season is here, and gathering with family and friends is finally a possibility once again. Many of us can’t wait to catch up with our loved ones this holiday season, but it’s essential to be cautious with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in our country.
Many generations gather together for holiday parties and other events this time of year. Keeping family and friends healthy and safe during this holiday season is the most precious gift one could give.
Here are a few tips to minimize the risk of Covid-19 transmission at celebrations this season;
Get Vaccinated
There is still time to get your first Covid-19 vaccination before Christmas. Studies show that a single dose reduced the rate of infection by up to 85%. The CDC recommends all eligible individuals over the age of 5 get vaccinated. Regardless of brand, Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective at protecting people from serious short-term and long-term side effects. The best news is, vaccinations are free! Get Boosted
The experts agree, all eligible for a Covid-19 booster shot should do so sooner than later! A booster shot renews the body’s immunity and further protects against serious side effects from Covid-19. Learn more about the booster shot here.
Take a Rapid Test
Before heading out to a gathering, take a simple at-home Covid-19 rapid test. Tests are available over the counter, and results are revealed in 15 minutes. The tests can detect Covid-19 in an asymptomatic person and a person with developing symptoms. If you would rather have a medical professional help you with a test, or if you need a PCR test for international travel, testing is available throughout our state, click here to see where is most convenient for you!
Mask Up
Whether an individual is vaccinated or not, masks are recommended in public spaces. Masks are one of the most effective ways of preventing the spread of Covid-19. Wearing a mask while shopping for Christmas gifts, buying the holiday roast at the grocery store, mailing cards at the post office, or any other public activity will help to keep loved ones safe.
Monitor Symptoms & Stay Home
If an individual or anyone in the household is experiencing any flu-like symptoms, staying home is the best plan. Technology allows for family and friends to gather remotely from anywhere in the world.
Discussing a plan of action before the gathering will help ease stress and anxiety among guests. Requesting rapid tests and/or face masks is much better than not seeing each other at all.
In-person celebrations can happen safely if these steps are followed. The CHLB hopes these simple steps will help bring cheer to everyone’s holiday celebrations.
